The Masters and the Path: by Charles Webster Leadbeater
 |
CW Leadbeater
(CWL) was one of those early Theosophists who has had a profound influence
on New Age thinking and Spiritual Philosophies. Several of his books were
"simply" written and can be considered as landmarks for introducing new (if
not ancient) ideas into the West. The Masters and the Path was written some
years after the time of CWL's "falling out" with parts of the Theosophical
Society, and indeed many theosophists even today have not fully forgiven
him. However, CWL had a curious mixture of eccentric and profound spiritual
qualities, and it was the latter that shone through in this particular book.
What is timeless about this book is not (for once) portrayal of new aspects
of knowledge. The Masters and the Path is the only book by CWL that gives a
real insight into the man's spirituality, and his motives in his spiritual
growth. |

Inspirations from Ancient Wisdom : At the Feet of the Master, Light on the
Path, the Voice of the Silence: by J. Krishnamurti
 |
There
are a daunting number -- and a broad range -- of books by and about
Krishnamurti. This is a superb starting point for the beginner who's seeking
to understand why he still commands such an enormous worldwide audience, as
it is for the reader who can only begin to imagine what it must have
required for Krishnamurti to renounce his childhood designation by the
worldwide Theosophist movement as an Avatar come to Earth. |

Archangels and Ascended Masters: A Guide to Working and Healing With
Divinities and Deities: by Doreen Virtue
 |
Archangels
and Ascended Masters is a thoroughly researched book in a lively
encyclopedia format, listing 77 divinities from Greek, Roman, Egyptian,
Asian, Babylonian, Tibetan, Buddhist, Celtic, Theosophical, New Age,
Catholic, Cabalistic, Jewish, and Christian roots. Doreen carefully studied
and wrote about the history of each deity, what role they serve today, how
they can help us with specific life problems, and how to call upon each one.
Doreen spent time in communication with each divinity to ensure that the
being was reachable, and to discover the essence of his or her personality
and current dealings with the world—and within these pages, she includes a
channeled message or impression from each of the ascended masters and
archangels. Many of her channelings were conducted at power points
throughout the world, such as Stonehenge in England; the Irish coast; Kona,
Hawaii; and the New Zealand rain forest. |

Mystics, Masters, Saints, and Sages: Stories of Enlightenment: by Robert Ullman, Judyth Reichenberg-Ullman
 |
Mystics,
masters, saints and sages appear in every major world religion and mystical
tradition, including Buddhism, Hinduism, Christianity, Judaism, Islam,
Sufism, and the Baha'i faith, as well as in lesser known religions and
individual spiritual paths. Whether saints and sages refer to the Beloved,
the Divine Mother, Christ, Yahweh, Shiva, Allah, the One, the Self,
Emptiness, or Consciousness makes no difference. The paths are many, the
mountain is one. Although mystics and masters can help us, inspire us, teach
us and show us the way, each of us must ultimately walk on our individual
path to God. These great spiritual teachers have achieved that which is
desired, but eludes, the vast majority of human beings: divine love,
universal compassion, profound peace, timeless wisdom, abiding Presence,
sublime happiness and a deep understanding of Truth. They have expanded
their individual consciousness to embrace the infinite and cosmic aspects of
life. By the examples of the saints and sages, as told in each of their
stories, and through your own study, meditation, prayer, love, devotion and
service, may you be made aware of the immortal Soul or Self in all beings
and every thing, May these stories bless you on your journey to realize God
and your own Self. |

Living With the Himalayan Masters: by Swami Rama
 |
One
of the great spiritual classics of all time. An insider's view of hidden
adepts who live outside time and space as we know it, yogis and yogis who
can't possibly exist- but do! This is one of the few books I have read
which is willing to discuss the concept of ending life consciously by yogic
means. It gives descriptions of the different ways this can be done. Of
course it does not give instructions on how to do it, which would be
dangerous, but it does give the idea that control over the process of death
is possible, if you are willing to put in the effort and study required. |
