Why Me? The Nightly Review By Cindy Griffith “Why me? Why do I always get stuck behind these old people??? I know I am tailgating you, slow poke, but maybe you’ll get the hint and go faster!” A little further down the road, “Finally, a place I can pass this old … Nun…, Oh…. Damn, I almost ran a Nun off the road. I am going to Hell!” So, maybe you haven’t run a Nun off the road, but I am sure that you have looked back on a situation and wished you had done better. When I look at some of my regrettable moments in life, they could have been avoided with a little mindfulness. The problem is I keep doing the same stupid things over and over again. Take tailgating. I am guilty as charged. It is like my brain thinks if I get up close enough I can fly over them! What usually happens is I make them nervous and they slow down even slower. I guess that could be Karma too. Both Mindfulness and Karma seem to go hand merrily in hand. How do we become more mindful? How do we realize that we are doing the same stupid thing, the same stupid way, as we did it before? How do we save our self from the Karmic Kick in the Butt? The solution may be easier than you think! Read on to start becoming mindful and change the tides of Karma at the same time. The Nightly Review. By being more mindful, you take control of your life (and your Karma) by being in control of what causes you put into effect. The nightly review will help you to be more mindful and more in control of your “output.” 1. At bedtime or anytime you feel you have some “alone with your mind” time start with the last conversation or action of the day. 2. Look at that scenario and see if there is something that you could have done better. A. If there is, don’t beat your self up. Say to yourself “I love myself; I will do better next time.” Then visualize the situation repeated and you responding the way that you know would have better reflected whom you are growing toward being. B. If you did well, then reinforce that you did well and see your self reacting the same way in a future similar situation. 3. Go to the next situation in the day and repeat the process. It is important to not judge yourself or beat yourself up! It is also important not to have an ego party if you did well. Balance here is the key. The Nightly Review helps you to be more mindful and in the beginning you will need to go easy on yourself. You are human, and it is human nature to not get it the first time! Do I need to repeat my self that it is important not to judge your self? Just say “I love myself,” and see yourself doing better the next time! I call it the Karmic Eraser as I believe that if you get the lesson and continue to show you got the lesson in future situations then you don’t have to pay the Karma. Karma is to balance and bring you into harmony with the Universal Flow. In my nightly review, I would watch myself pull over my car when I got behind a slow driver, or I would see myself taking a different road. What really finally worked for me is that I would picture the slow driver as my Mother-in-Law, Myrtle. You want a scary thought? It was that 86 year old woman behind the wheel. I would imagine that it was Myrtle and I wouldn’t want to rush her. It helped me to back off and give the slow driver some room. Who knew, maybe they were driving as fast as was safe for them?! Epilogue: A number of years later (I told you, we are human and it takes us a while) I was driving down Route 20 between Skaneateles and LaFayette when Dave and I got behind a slow driver. I had seen this scene in my nightly review a number of times and finally it was becoming almost automatic. I thought of Myrtle as I slowed down and left plenty of room between the slow poke’s car and my front bumper. Then a big truck got behind me and started to tailgate me. I figured I had seen this scene too and pulled over to let him go by. He got right up on that slow car and almost pushed it down the road until he could zoom past. He was long gone as the slow car and I pulled up to the light in LaFayette. As the slow poke car turned the corner, we saw it was a car full of Nuns! I had been redeemed. I now have my spot back in heaven! Thank you Nightly Review! Mindfulness, it can be a real Soul saver! You have permission to reprint what you have just read.
