Follow the Lion’s Tail!

By Cindy Griffith

People still ask me about the experiences my friend, Christopher, and I had in Egypt and what we learned from our journey. One story that is enjoyed is the "Follow the Lion’s Tail" tale.

Christopher and I wanted to go up the Nile to Abydos but had been told that it was closed because it was too dangerous. Bus loads of tourists kept getting shot. We were unsure what to do next. We could of gone to the Red Sea or attempted to continue up the Nile. Christopher asked me to "check in", which always makes me nervous. I have no problem channeling for others, but often doubt myself when the information is for me.

I asked my Guides (which I see as my connection to Spirit) what we should do; journey to Abydos or the Red Sea. Usually I hear my guidance as a thought form, but I heard the words "FOLLOW THE LION’S TAIL!" It was loud! So I said, "Okay Spirit, what the heck does that mean?" I then heard "YOU WILL KNOW IN TWO DAYS!"

Now I must say, I really had no idea what They were talking about, so I sheepishly relayed this seemingly ridiculous message to Christopher and didn’t think about it again.

Remember I had totally forgotten about the Lion’s Tail thing, when two days later we are picnicking at the side of the temple at Esna, when low and behold there is a lion with a very strange tail carved as a relief into the side of the temple. I remembered the message, and said "Look Christopher, look at the lion with the weird tail. I wonder if it has to do with the message."

Christopher looked at it and suddenly, I could almost see the light bulb go on over his head. He pulls out the map of Egypt and points to the Nile River. The next part of the river was shaped just like the lion’s tail on the wall of the temple. We were basically at the lion’s butt and Abydos was at the tip of the tail. I guess we were going to Abydos! We went to the tourist police who said if we went by train we were least likely to be shot. (Sorry Mom: I didn’t tell you this part of the story!) We went by train.

The story continues with our being met at the train by armed police who escorted us to the temple and back. We were the only tourist there. They nicely but firmly detained us at the train station on the way back for over four hours under armed guard. I think it was to teach us a lesson about going where they didn’t want us to. I must say the temple was beautiful and worth having to use the men’s bathroom with an armed guard standing outside the door. We waited for what seemed forever. They were very nice though and when finally the train departed with us safely aboard they waved a friendly, but relieved "Ma Salom" or goodbye.

What did I learn from this? One thing is that if you don’t push, and let God take care of the details, things basically turn out fine. I also learned that sometimes it takes two people to solve a problem. That was a big one. I like to do everything myself and Spirit is trying to get me to be willing to work with others! More importantly though, I learned to truly trust my guidance. Students often say to me, "How do I tell the difference between imagination and intuition?" Well in the beginning you don’t. You just keep trusting your guidance and watching for confirmation. Now in the beginning I wouldn’t close your eyes and use your intuition to cross the street. The only way you learn to develop your intuition and your guidance is to trust it. We all have intuition. It is like a muscle; you have to exercise it to build it. No one has better answers for you, than your own inner guide. God granted everyone insight, it is just a matter of trusting it!
