Animal Spirit/Medicine The Native Americans and other nature oriented cultures tend to have Animal Spirits that they call upon. It is not the same as we think of Spirit Guides. Each type of animal possesses it’s own Spirit Medicine or Power. When one calls on the spirit of the particular animal, they are asking for the ability to possess it’s strong point (Medicine or Power). They are not asking for guidance or direction in the same way that we ask guidance from our Spirit Guides. For Animal Medicine, I referred to the book, Medicine Cards, by Sams and Carson. They say that Medicine refers anything that improves one’s connection to the Great Mystery and to all of life. They also say that it includes healing of body, mind and spirit. Medicine can also be anything which brings personal power, strength and understanding. What follows is a list of the most common animals and their Medicine or Power. For more details of how to relate to each animal and it’s medicine, I highly recommend the books Medicine Cards, by Sams Carson and Animal Speaks, by Ted Andrews.
